Port Louis’s best dhal puri, get there early or you’ll miss out. “Real” Mauritians don’t go to restaurants for lunch. They head to their favourite stand for dhal puri, the Indian crepes made from ground split peas and filled with veggies, coriander and as much chilli as you like. For the best dhal puri, go to the corner of Sir William Newton and Remy Ollier roads, between noon and 1pm. Look for a monumental queue: that’s the best one. Don’t get there too late. Once he runs out, the vendor will take off on his moped.
Monday to Friday, 12pm-1pm
Corner of Sir William Newton and Remy Ollier Streets.
