Monument to the World War I Dead

Monument to the World War I Dead

One of the few Portuguese-era monuments still standing, the Monument to the World War I Dead honours both the Portuguese and Mozambicans killed in the Great War. There’s an alternate urban legend about the statue, that it honours a woman who outwitted and killed a deadly cobra that once terrorized the plaza. You’ll understand when you see it.
